Sharp Rules in Kentucky
Scott Sharp added another notch to his win tally today with a strong drive to victory in the Amber Alert Portal Indy 300 at Kentucky Speedway. The win was Sharp's ninth in the IndyCar Series, and his first race win since Japan in 2003. It came in his 110th IndyCar Series career start and record 102nd consecutive start. Sharp, who started seventh, passed Dan Wheldon for the lead on Lap 134 of the 200-lap race. He led a total of 60 laps, holding off a hard-charging Vitor Meira in the closing stages. The result is Sharp's fifth top-five result of the season and has moved him up to fifth in the championship standings, only 24 points out of third place. Sharp's victory marks back-to-back wins at Kentucky Speedway for the team as Adrian Fernandez took top honors last year.
Scott Sharp, #8 Delphi Panoz/Honda/Firestone:
"Wow! What an awesome day. I don't even know where to really begin. I am just so thankful to Delphi, Adrian [Fernandez], Tom [Anderson], my engineering staff and the entire team. This is just a team that never quits. The guys worked so hard between Michigan and Kentucky to get us stronger. We made a lot of changes between the warm-up and the race that made the car faster, and the guys gave me great pit stops today. Everything came together. I am just so appreciative for the opportunity that I have been given here, and thankful that I was able to show everybody what I could do."

Tom Anderson, Co-Owner/Managing Director:
"The success we had today would not have been possible without Delphi, Futaba, AT&T and Bryant, with those sponsors coming on board last year with the Fernandez team. We are now starting to carry on from where we left off last year, and for Scott to repeat Adrian's victory and bring us back to the Winner's Circle is absolutely tremendous. Scott carried not the best car today. I think the pit stops and Scott won that race. Whoever won that last pit stop was probably the race winner, and Vitor came extremely close. Scott did what he had to do with the pressure and showed that he is the professional that we all thought he was; just a tremendous job. The Firestone tires today were absolutely incredible. We ran stickers the last two runs and they stuck like glue on the banking here at Kentucky. We can't say enough about our engine manufacturer, Honda. They gave us the power that we needed to win here today. We appreciate everything they do for us, and congratulations to them on the victory as well. We want to wish Adrian's father a quick recovery from his heart surgery that he underwent this week. Adrian missed the race to be with his father, and we are wishing them all well."
