Handling Hinders Sharp in Milwaukee Qualifying
Scott Sharp will make his 100th consecutive IndyCar Series career start from Row Seven of the grid after qualifying 13th this afternoon for the ABC Supply Company -- AJ Foyt 225. Sharp battled understeer during his qualification run on the challenging Milwaukee Mile circuit, and had to settle for a midfield starting position which was seven-tenths of a second off of pole.
Sharp, however, is optimistic heading into tomorrow's 225-lap event. In addition to being pleased with the progress made on the #8 machine yesterday as the team worked on its race day setup, Sharp is no stranger to rebounding from a midfield starting position. Most recently, he came back from a 16th-place starting position at Texas to finish fourth.
Sharp, who currently sits sixth in the championship standings, has recorded four top-five and six top-seven finishes to date this season. He will be aiming to make his 100th consecutive series start a memorable one tomorrow.
Scott Sharp, #8 Delphi Panoz/Honda/Firestone:
"We made some changes, but didn't get to do our last run in practice. Unfortunately for Ryan [Briscoe], he crashed. For us, we didn't get to go out and do our last qualifying simulation run with the changes we made. We thought we loosened the car, but it was really tight in qualifying. I got through [Turns] One and Two the best I had and carried a lot of speed into Three, and just pushed all the way up into the gray and had to back out of it. I lost all of my momentum. It is a little bit of a bummer, but I think we are making good strides with the Delphi car. We improved it a lot from yesterday, and I think we are really going to be pretty good in race trim. We just would have liked to have started a little higher up."
