Race Distance: 300 miles/482.8 km (200 laps on the 1.5-mile/2.414-km oval).
Television Broadcast: Tape delay - Saturday, April 21, at noon EDT on ESPN.
Firestone Firehawk(tm) Race Tires Supplied: 668 dry-condition slicks.
Each car receives eight sets (32 total tires) for the race weekend.
New for the 2007 season, these tires were produced in Akron, Ohio, and were developed based on testing in Indianapolis last October. They are designed to have slightly more grip than last year's tire and will also be run at this year's Indianapolis 500.
Quote from Al Speyer, Executive Director, Firestone Racing: "Firestone Racing is always pleased to make the trip to Japan for the IndyCar Series event each year. Our company's worldwide headquarters are located in Tokyo, so it is great to come back here every year and see friends and colleagues. We are bringing a new tire to the Bridgestone Japan Indy 300 this year, one that should give drivers a bit more grip than in past events at this track. And this race will serve as a great preview of the Indianapolis 500 since this same tire compound and construction will be used during the month of May."
Firestone Performance Award: This $10,000 prize commemorates Firestone's status as the only tire manufacturer to have participated in every IndyCar Series race, and it is given to the driver leading the lap number corresponding to the cumulative number of races in series history. The Bridgestone Indy Japan 300 is the 137th IndyCar Series race, so the Firestone Performance Award will go to the driver who leads lap 137.
