Herta to start 5th in the Archipelago/Motorola machine at Nazareth.

NAZARETH, Pa. (August 23, 2003) -- Bryan Herta will start fifth in tomorrow's Firestone Indy 225 at Nazareth Speedway. Herta lapped the one-mile oval in the #27 Archipelago/Motorola Dallara/Honda/Firestone at 169.114 miles per hour.

After struggling some during yesterday's practice sessions, the Archipelago/Motorola team poured over the data they collected and were able to find some additional speed for qualifying.

Herta heads into the race with experience and a little success on his side, having raced at Nazareth since the early 1990's. His past results here include a win in Indy Lights competition.

Scott Dixon ran a lap of 171.182 miles per hour to earn his fifth pole of the 2003 season. Dixon, who sits fourth in the series point standings entering tomorrow's event, will start alongside Helio Castroneves, who qualified at 170.849 miles per hour. Herta's teammate Tony Kanaan earned the third starting position with a lap at 170.259 miles per hour. Dan Wheldon will start 14th on Sunday after qualifying with a lap at 164.675 miles per hour.

The 225-lap Firestone Indy 225 will air live on ESPN at 3 p.m. EDT tomorrow.

Bryan Herta, #27 Archipelago/Motorola Dallara/Honda/Firestone

"We were hoping for a little bit more speed, but the Archipelago/Motorola car just had a little too much understeer and that hurt us a little bit. I've run at Nazareth before so this is on of the few tracks on the IRL schedule that I've got some experience at, and I think that helps a little bit. Nazareth is a tough track. It is a lot of fun to qualify, but it is very frustrating to race here sometimes because passing seems to be quite difficult which is why it was important to qualify near the front."

Kyle Moyer, Team Manager, Archipelago/Motorola

"From where we were yesterday to where we are today is a big improvement. We still have to work on our race car. We are qualified up front, which is what you need to do here. Now it is a matter of getting the car perfect; we're close, but not perfect."
