NAZARETH, PA (April 19, 2002) - Notes from the Firestone Indy 225 at Nazareth Speedway:
A fire at the Kelley Racing transporter caused first and second degree burns to Robert Perez, the team's chief mechanic. Perez was pumping fuel from the car when it ignited. Crewmembers reported that the pump had an electrical short, which caused the fuel to ignite. Mark Sampson, a Kelley mechanic, received minor burns to his right hand. Both were treated at the infield care center and released.

A traveling distance of .934 mile will be used to measure speed this weekend at Nazareth Speedway, which is commonly referred to as a mile.

A brief rain shower between Indy Racing practice sessions did not alter the schedule for the Indy cars. Practice sessions for the three USAC divisions were shortened allowing the afternoon Indy racing practice session to run as scheduled.
***
Three Indy Racing drivers have experienced the thrill of victory at Nazareth Speedway. Airton Dare, now driving for A.J. Foyt, won in Indy Lights in 1999. Anthony Lazzaro won the Toyota Atlantic event that same year. Alex Barron won the Atlantic race in 1997.
***
Not only have several Indy racing drivers competed on Nazareth's one-mile oval in the past, president and CEO of the Indy Racing League, Tony George has competed twice. George started eighth and finished eighth in a Super Vee race in September in 1987. In September 1989 he finished 11th in a 75-lap Indy Lights race.

Tom Walkinshaw is attending this weekend's Firestone Indy 225 at Nazareth Speedway. Walkinshaw is the team principal for the Orange Arrows Formula One team and chairman of TWR Group, which builds engines for all the Infiniti teams.
