Mo Nunn Racing's Felipe Giaffone was the top G Force performer in the latest round of the Indy Racing League at Pikes Peak today.
Giaffone finished just outside the podium positions in 4th place, trailing race winner Gil de Feran, team-mate Helio Castroneves; and Sam Hornish Jr.
"My car was fast, but by the end of a stint right before I pitted, the car would get a bit loose," Giaffone said.
"The team told me that I had the fastest lap of the race at one point. The car was fast.
"I believe that fourth place was good under these conditions. We had to make many changes during the race.
"During the last pit stop, we found out that the car handled better when we reduced the tire pressures, but by that point, it was too late. The handling improved, but it was not enough to catch the leaders."
Unfortunately for last round winner Jeff Ward, a crash on lap 161 took him out the running.
"The car went real loose about halfway through the run. I had to tip toe," Ward said. "It just stepped out on me. I saved it, then it pushed up into the wall. I got into the marbles."
Robbie Buhl also struck trouble early in the race with engine problems taking him out of the running.
George Mack continued his consistent run, bringing his G Force chassis home in 13th position.
"Wow. The weather changes so much that it's constantly changing the car. Constantly, constantly, constantly," Mack said.
"At one point, I was good in (Turns) 1 and 2. I could get a real good run, especially when I was following (Buddy) Lazier. It was a trade-off all day.
"I was in the car messing with the bars, with the weight-jacker, doing all kinds of things, changing my line. All in all, the car's still in one piece. This is my sixth race now. I'll take it, I guess."
G Force was recently announced as one of the official IRL chassis suppliers for the next three years. The company has been in IRL competition since the introduction of the new chassis rules in 1997.
Part of the Panoz group's Elan Motorsport Technologies organization, the G Force headquarters in Georgia features full in-house design, fabrication, machining and composite construction facilities.
The largest manufacturer of racing cars in the world, the Elan group includes G Force, Formula Ford expert Van Dieman, leading American Le Mans Series team Panoz Motor Sports and specialist services companies Elan Power Products, Elan Precision and Elan Composites.
