INFINITI INDY INSIDER *Trackside Report, Radisson 200, Pikes Peak International Raceway* Qualifying -- Saturday, June 26
Starting from the sixth row of the grid, Infiniti is in a good position heading into tomorrow's Radisson 200 at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain, Colo.
With temperatures in the mid-90s, Eddie Cheever Jr. qualified 11th with a quick lap of 173.185 mph (20.787 seconds)--only three tenths of a second slower than Greg Ray's pole winning time of 176.005 mph (20.454 seconds). Cheever is the only Infinti Indy driver competing at Pikes Peak this weekend.
Team Cheever continued to show improvement in the final practice which followed qualifying. Driving the No. 51 The Children's Beverage Group Infiniti, Cheever was third quickest in the session with his race setup.
The Radisson 200 starts at 2:00 p.m. (EDT) on Sunday, June 27 and will be televised live on FOX Sports Net. Also, the Indy Racing Radio Network live broadcast can be heard on the internet at www.indyracingleague.com.
Quotes: Eddie Cheever Jr., No. 51 Team Cheever/Children's Beverage Group Infiniti/Dallara/Goodyear (Qualified 11th): "We did our finest lap of the weekend (in qualifying). When we were testing here last weekend we were running about two-tenths faster, so I thought we could have done better today. This is an incredibly tough track. It is going to come down to tires and air in my opinion. These long-edged corners beat the heck out of the tires. I also think a lot of people out there do not realize how hard the rarefied air is going to be on the equipment and the drivers over the 200 laps. In the end, the guy who is fastest and most consistent will win."
Qualifying Highlights
1. Greg Ray, 176.005 2. John Hollansworth, 175.859 3. Mark Dismore, 175.106 4. Sam Schmidt, 175.072 5. Tyce Carlson, 175.012 6. Robby Unser, 174.715 7. Billy Boat, 174.613 8. Scott Harrington, 173.745 9. Davey Hamilton, 173.511 10. Jimmy Kite, 173.435 11. Eddie Cheever Jr., 173.185
