Improving dramatically over Friday’s practice speeds, Kelley Racing driver’s Mark Dismore and Scott Sharp qualified 3rd and 6th, respectively, for the Colorado Indy 200. Dismore, pilot of the MCI WorldCom/Dallara jumped from 21st in Friday’s practice to the provisional pole for most of the qualifying session. Dismore rocketed around the 1-mile oval at 175.996 mph, while teammate Sharp clocked a 174.165 mph lap. Both the MCI WorldCom and Delphi Automotive Systems teams are looking forward to tomorrow’s Colorado Indy 200, and are confident of victory.
#8 Scott Sharp, Delphi Automotive Systems/Dallara/Oldsmobile/Goodyear car: “Well, considering where we started back in June at the race here, we’re in a much better position. The track really heated up out there today. I think it slowed the car down a little, but I’m still pleased with our qualifying run. The Delphi team’s goal was to qualify in the first three rows, and we accomplished that. We’ll go for it tomorrow, and hope all goes well.”
#28 Mark Dismore, MCI WorldCom/Dallara/Oldsmobile/Goodyear car: “I’m a little disappointed we didn’t get the pole, but the I ’m very happy with the car and excited about the MCI WorldCom team’s chances tomorrow. Also I’m very happy for the MCI WorldCom crew. These guys have been working really hard, and we’re all engineering the car together this weekend. We have a great starting position tomorrow, and I know it’s going to take consistency and patience to win. I’m confident we can.”
The Colorado Indy 200 starts at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 29. Live television coverage can be seen on FOX Sports Net. Check your local cable listings for accurate times.
