FIRESTONE FIREHAWK FAST FACTS
IndyCar Series
Motorola Indy 300 presented Jackson Rancheria Casino
Infineon Raceway - Sonoma, Calif.
August 24-26, 2007 - Round 15 of 17
Race Distance: 180.64 miles/290.712 km (80 laps around the 2.258-mile/3.634-km permanent road course).
Television Broadcast: Live - Sunday, August 26, at 3:30 p.m. EDT on ESPN.
Firestone Firehawk Race Tires Supplied:
* 804 dry-condition slicks; each car receives nine sets (36 tires) for the race weekend. Firestone Fast Six qualifiers receive one additional set of slicks for that session.
* 340 wet-condition grooved tires; each car receives four sets (16 tires) of rain tires.
The Firehawk dry-condition tires selected for Infineon are familiar to both the track and the IndyCar Series drivers. The identical tire specification was used at Infineon in 2006 as well as at Mid-Ohio last month. It is the highest-grip ("softest") of the compound specifications in Firestone's road-course inventory. The Firehawk rain tire for this weekend is the "softer" of the two Firestone currently uses.
From Al Speyer, Executive Director, Firestone Racing: "We're excited to return to one of the most scenic road courses in all of America, in one of the most scenic locales anywhere. With its twists, turns and elevation changes, Infineon is a challenging track for the drivers and for tire suppliers as well. We hit on a good combination with the Firestone tires run at Infineon a year ago, so we're going with the same track-proven spec again this year. This same spec was used at Mid-Ohio in July, so all the IndyCar Series teams are quite familiar with the tires' capabilities. In an effort to encourage more cars running during practice, Firestone has also agreed to supply an additional set of tires on top of the normal eight sets for the weekend. We hope all teams take advantage of this and give fans some added on-track entertainment."
Firestone Performance Award: This $10,000 prize commemorates Firestone's status as the only tire manufacturer to have participated in every IndyCar Series race, and is normally given to the driver leading the lap number corresponding to the cumulative number of races in series history, which reaches 149 this weekend. Since the Motorola Indy 300 is only 80 laps in length, however, the Firestone Performance Award will go to the driver leading lap 66, when the 149th race mile is completed.
