Panther Duo Looks to Past Experience This Weekend
Scheckter & Enge Return to Road Course Roots
SONOMA, Calif. -- The road course backgrounds of Panther drivers Tomas Scheckter and Tomas Enge will be put to test this weekend in the Argent Mortgage Indy Grand Prix at Infineon Raceway. Early in their careers, both drivers climbed the European formula ladder on road courses all over the world, but they will be put to test for only the second time in their IndyCar Series career this weekend.
The difficult 2.3-mile, 12-turn track will be the first IndyCar Series event on a permanent road course. Previously the series competed on the streets of St. Petersburg, the first non-oval race in Indy Racing League history.
Enge competed at Infineon in 2003 in an American Le Mans Series event, where he finish 4th while driving for Prodrive Ferrari. The IndyCar Series rookie also tested in Sonoma earlier this year. He is coming off his career-best finish, which was a sixth place result last weekend in Colorado Springs. He started 5th and finished 16th in St. Petersburg after a tangle with Sam Hornish, Jr. earlier this season. Enge also led four laps in that event.
Scheckter has never competed in Sonoma and will look to get acclimated to the difficult course as quickly as possible this weekend. Scheckter finished 17th at St. Pete despite running as high as second during the race. With his start this weekend, Scheckter will tie Scott Goodyear with 30 starts for the team, second only to Sam Hornish, Jr. who took the green flag a total of 44 times for the Pennzoil team.
Coverage of the Argent Mortgage Indy Grand Prix will be provided live on ESPN at 3:30 p.m. (EDT) with addition coverage provided by the IMS Radio network.
Tomas Enge:
"I'm very optimistic entering this race for several reasons. Especially because our car was so strong at St. Pete and I know that will be the case again this weekend. Second, I have some experience here in a GT car and also during the test we had earlier this season. I also feel as if I'm getting back into the rhythm of these races and back up to speed since coming back from injury. I have a good feeling that the RockStar car will be near the front and we're all looking for a great result on Sunday."
Tomas Scheckter:
"I've never raced here, so I'm going try and get a lot of laps in practice. Some other guys out here will have an advantage this weekend because they've been here before, but we'll catch up quickly I'm sure. The Pennzoil car was strong in St. Pete earlier this year and I know it will be the same situation this weekend at Infineon."
