"Red Bull Cheever Racing is next in line to use the Gen IV Chevy Indy V8"
FAST FACTS: Sunday, August 10 at 3:00 p.m. EDT, Live on ABC Round 11 of 16 of the Indy Racing League IndyCar Series Gateway International Raceway, 200 laps, 1.25 mile oval Driver: Buddy Rice, No. 52 Dallara/Chevrolet/Firestone
BUDDY RICE ON TESTING AT GATEWAY INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY:
"The test at Gateway went really well. We were able to get done everything we had planned and we learned enough information about the Gen IV Chevy Indy V8 to use for the upcoming race. We also worked on our setup and made small changes since everything is a little bit different now with the new engine. The Red Bull Cheever Racing Team worked really hard the past few days to install the new engine in time for the test. We're going to continue to work on the details and we're confident that we're going to be competitive and able to run in the front of the pack."
TEAM NOTES: Max Jones, Managing Director, on testing the Gen IV Chevy Indy V8:
"We had a good test these past two days and were able to obtain a lot of useful information about the Gen IV Chevy Indy V8. We had 200 miles that we were able to use to test and we only logged about 90 of these miles, but it was a good opportunity for us to see how the engine could perform. Buddy turned a lot of competitive lap times, so we're optimistic that he will continue this performance at Gateway next weekend. With the performance at the test, it's even more apparent that Chevy has been working hard on developing this new engine, and thanks to the hard work of the Red Bull Cheever Racing crew, we were able to install the engine in time for the test."
Last weekend at the Michigan International Speedway, Rice brought home an 11th place finish for the Red Bull Cheever Racing Team. With this finish, Rice held his position as the second highest Chevy team in the standings, allowing him the use of the Gen IV Chevy Indy V8 engine for the Gateway Indy 250 at Gateway International Raceway. Rice will be the only driver using the new engine during this race. Following the Gateway Indy 250, all Chevy drivers will be using the Gen IV Chevy Indy V8 at Kentucky Speedway for the Belterra Casino Indy 300.
The ABC coverage of the race showed Red Bull Cheever Racing sign board crew member Keith Davis, of Huntington, PA, jumping over the wall two times to avoid a bouncing tire from A.J. Foyt IV's car. It was a phenomenal athletic performance. Keith said laughing, "I was watching Mark Bridges (IRL Official) and he didn't move, so I was following his lead. All of a sudden, the tire got closer and my first instinct was to jump and get out of the way. The only problem was that I jumped over the pit wall on the track side. I realized right away that I shouldn't be on that side either, so once again I hopped back over the wall. I couldn't find a good place to get out of the way. I guess you could say I got lucky!"
Where to catch Buddy:
Buddy Rice will head to St. Louis several days before the race to participate in some exciting events throughout the community. On Thursday night, Rice will air live during the motorsports segment on "The Big Sports Show," hosted by Jim Compton. Friday, Rice will attend a media luncheon at Mike Shannon's Steak and Seafood, head to a private Red Bull dinner in the evening along with a VIP media go-kart challenge, and finish the day at Busch Stadium where Bob Jenkins will interview him from the field following the Cardinals vs. Braves game.
Red Bull Cheever Racing Merchandise is available at the merchandise trailer in the fan midway at each IRL Race, and is now available on the www.cheeverracing.com website. Check out the variety of team apparel including t-shirts, hats, outerwear, novelty items, die cast collectibles and more. "One of the best things about being a driver, and now a team owner, is looking into the grandstands or walking through the pits and seeing fans wearing your team colors," said Eddie Cheever Jr.
