LEBANON, TN, July 18, 2003 - Final practice for the Firestone Indy 200 was uneventful for once. Only one caution for debris punctuated the half-hour session. Alex Barron was quickest in the #21 Hollywood Panoz G Force/Toyota/Firestone, followed by Bryan Herta's #27 Alpine/Archipelago/Motorola Dallara/Honda. Yes, the Replacements led the evening practice, Barron subbing for injured Felipe Giaffone, Herta for Dario Franchitti.
Rookie Roger Yasukawa turned the third quickest lap in the #55 Panasonic/ARTA Dallara/Honda, followed by the #6 Marlboro Team Penske Dallara/Toyota of Gil de Ferran. Tony Kanaan's earlier disappointment evaporated with his fifth place showing in the #11 Team 7-Eleven Dallara/Honda. Kenny Brack was sixth in the #15 Pioneer/Miller Lite Dallara/Honda, followed by Dan Wheldon's #26 Dallara/Honda, sponsored by Klein Tools and Jim Beam.
Polesitter Scott Dixon was eighth in the #9 Team Target Panoz G Force/Toyota and, quite amazingly, Buddy Lazier, slowest qualifier in the #91 Delta Faucet/Life Fitness Dallara/Chevrolet took ninth. Greg Ray rounded out the top ten in the #13 TrimSpa Special Panoz G Force/Honda.
The top three ran their fastest laps over 203mph, de Ferran ran over 202mph, while five drivers circulated in the 201mph range.
