PENSKE RACING'S NEW DIGS

Last year Penske Racing announced that it would be moving its IndyCar Series operation from its historic Reading, PA headquarters to a new state-of-the-art facility in Mooresville, NC. With this move, the IndyCar Series Team will be joining the other Penske Performance, Inc. constituents in the NASCAR and ALMS Series under one 424,697-square foot roof.

The IndyCar Series Team will share approximately 56,000 square feet of work space with the ALMS Team. Both Teams will have their own engineering offices, car assembly bays and locker rooms and will share a fabrication shop; machine shop; parts department; gearbox, crack check and sub-assembly area; as well as the administrative and reception areas.

"Thus far, this has been a relatively seamless transition," said Jerry Breon, Facilities Administrator for Penske Performance, Inc. "We hope to begin occupying some of the new spaces by the end of the month, and our target date for the completion of this project will be the middle of November. Our organization is constantly evolving and I think that this new space is an ideal example of how we look to change with it. This new facility should provide exactly what the Team needs as we look to the future."

While the facilities are in the process of being completed, that's only half of the equation for the IndyCar Series Team's relocation to North Carolina. There is, of course, the matter of moving 39 employees from Pennsylvania to their new homes. This phase of the plan is projected to be completed by November 8th. There are currently ten Penske Racing employees already settled in the Mooresville area, another 12 will be relocated by October 16th and the remaining 17 will report to work in North Carolina on November 8th.

Team Manager Tom Wurtz and Team General Manager Clive Howell have been hard at work the past several months coordinating the entire moving process. Not only have the pair worked with each individual employee to determine when they will need to begin calling North Carolina home, but they've also assisted with each Team member's relocation and moving needs. Furthermore, Wurtz and Howell are charge overseeing the transfer of all of the Team equipment.

"We worked with each individual moving to Mooresville, which made this whole project quite a challenge from a logistical standpoint," explains Wurtz. "For each employee, we created a realistic timeframe for them to make the move that not only suited them from a work perspective, but also from a personal standpoint. Some folks wanted to move down early enough to have their children start the new school year in North Carolina, while others had difficulty selling their property in Pennsylvania. We tried to insure each person's individual needs were met while continuing to keep the Team operating at full capacity."

HORNISH IN THE NEWS

On Monday, Sam Hornish Jr. was at his home in Napoleon, OH participating in photo shoots for two upcoming articles in national publications.

ESPN The Magazine will feature the defending Indianapolis 500 winner in their "Sweat Spot" section in an upcoming issue. The article will focus on Hornish Jr.'s unique workout regimen designed to not only keep him in top physical condition, but also sharpen his reflexes to insure he's at the top of his game mentally as well as physically.

In addition, RC Driver Magazine spoke with Hornish Jr. about one of his favorite hobbies -- remote control cars. The publication will not only showcase his extensive RC car collection in an upcoming issue, but it will also highlight one of his favorite creations -- a replica Hornish Bros. semitruck modeled after the ones used in his family's trucking business, Hornish Bros., Inc.

CASTRONEVES RAISES FUNDS FOR CHARITY

This past Thursday, Helio Castroneves was in his hometown of Miami raising money for charity at the launch party for the new video game "Scarface: The World is Yours."

The two-time Indianapolis 500 winner competed head-to-head against "Entourage" star Kevin Dillon to raise money for charity, Castroneves donated his winnings to the Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation. Other attendees at the event included Robert Loggia, a member of the cast of "Scarface," and former Miss Brazil Ana Carolina.

"The party was a lot of fun, and the club (Mansion) was amazing. It was also great to meet the other celebrities at the event," Castroneves said. "The game was very exciting to play. Unfortunately, I wasn't very good at it, so I didn't win, but, because we were playing for charity, everyone came out a winner."

HORNISH JR. MOTIVATES THE FBI

Last week, 2006 Indianapolis 500 winner Sam Hornish Jr. traveled to Columbus, OH to speak at a regional FBI conference. The Ohio chapter of the FBI was hosting the conference to increase synergy with local law enforcement agencies.

The 27 year-old Ohio native spoke to FBI and local law enforcement representatives about the importance of teamwork and working towards achieving one's goals.

"Everything we do in racing involves teamwork, and I definitely wouldn't have been able to get to where I am today without a lot of support from others," said Hornish Jr. "As a result, it was great to give back to those who also rely on teamwork to serve and protect our society."

HORNISH JR. WATCHES TIGERS CLINCH DIVISION

Reigning IndyCar Series Champion Sam Hornish Jr. and his wife Crystal were in Detroit last Saturday as guests of Roger Penske at Comerica Park, as the Tigers clinched their American League Division Series against the New York Yankees.

Hornish Jr. watched the action from the Penske Corporation suite and throughout the game notable Tigers personalities stopped by to meet him including 1968 World Series MVP Mickey Lolich and former Detroit Tiger and Hall of Famer Al Kaline.

"It was really exciting to watch the Tigers clinch the Series," said Hornish Jr. "I've never seen a crowd cheer so much during every single pitch. Every strike was like they won the game and every ball was like they lost. It was an electric atmosphere at Comerica Park, and I'm glad Crystal and I were a part of it."
