FORT WORTH-DALLAS (May 16, 2001) - Tradition and motorsports go hand in hand. The winner of the upcoming Indianapolis 500 will receive the Borg-Warner Trophy and a sip of milk in victory lane. The race victor in the June 9 Casino Magic 500 at Texas Motor Speedway will also partake in a tradition, receiving the Foyt-Rutherford Trophy.

The winner of the Indy Racing Northern Light Series event will receive a hand-cut, imported crystal trophy named in honor of Texas racing legends A.J. Foyt and Johnny Rutherford. Texas Motor Speedway made the initial presentation of the Foyt-Rutherford Trophy last year.

The Foyt-Rutherford Trophy, a hand-blown crystal bowl mounted on a crystal base, stands 20 inches tall and features stars representing The Lone Star of Texas.

The trophy is produced in the Czech Republic by Ruckl Crystal which was founded in 1846 and has created custom pieces for the Queen of England.

"Tradition is important at Texas Motor Speedway, even though we are only in our fifth racing season," said speedway general manager Eddie Gossage. "We introduced the Foyt-Rutherford Trophy last year -- this season it becomes a tradition of the Casino Magic 500 ."

GETTING CLOSE - Pit passes for the Casino Magic weekend June 7 - 9 are on sale at the Texas Motor Speedway ticket office. The pit passes allow access in the pit and garage areas until a half hour prior to the start of the O'Reilly 400 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race and the Casino Magic 500.

Pit passes, which are good for the entire weekend, are $55 each. Either a grandstand or infield race ticket is required to obtain a pit pass. Pit passes may also be purchased at Gate 7 of the main grandstand each race day. For more information contact the speedway ticket office at (817) 215-8500.

LEAVE THE SCOOTERS HOME - Texas Motor Speedway will continue to enforce its new camping policy that prohibits unlicensed motorized vehicles, including scooters, four-wheelers and golf carts in The Dallas Morning News Camping areas during the Casino Magic 500 weekend.

A staffed impound area will be operated beginning at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 6 for campers who bring a prohibited vehicle with them. The vehicles will be stored through the weekend with pickup available until 8:00 a.m. Sunday, June 10.

LEGENDS OF THE ROAD - The Casino Magic 500 weekend will include races for Legends Cars and Bandoleros on Friday, June 8, at 3:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 9, at 3:30 p.m. The Legends and Bandolero machines will compete on the quarter-mile asphalt oval located at the superspeedway's start-finish line.

"The Legends and Bandoleros have been part of our major events since 1997 and we know the competitors are looking forward to being part of the Casino Magic 500 activities," said speedway general manager Eddie Gossage. "The Legends and Bandoleros always give our fans some great short-track racing action."

DRIVE IT YOURSELF - Fans will get the opportunity to drive their own vehicle around Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday night, May 19 from 6:00 - 10:00 p.m. during Speedway Children's Charities' "Laps for Charity."

For $25, fans can take three paced laps around the 1.5-mile superspeedway. All passengers must be at least six years old to ride around the speedway. Car clubs are welcome to participate. All proceeds will be used to assist charities benefiting children in Dallas, Tarrant, Collin and Denton Counties.

Pictures in Victory Lane will be available at an additional cost. Concessions will also be available. For more information contact the Texas chapter of Speedway Children's Charities at (817) 215-8564.
