WDW Speedway, Qualifying Order

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL, January 22, 1998 - Down here in this fantasy town there is a third way of doing things, the Disney way and that means its big time. The draw of the pills to determine the qualifying order was a huge production featuring the West End Stage at Disney's Pleasure Island, a lottery bubble with 45 numbers spinning, spot lights, and a nationally recognized master of ceremonies who introduced drivers of thirty-five (35) of the 39 eligible entries. It is believed that this entry list is a record for a championship car event outside of Indianapolis for any sanctioning organization. Emcee for the gala was to have been Bob Jenkins of ESPN and IMS Radio fame however he became stalled out in Detroit due to inclement flying weather and did not arrive until the draw was 1/3rd complete. Pinch hitting and doing a great job was Terre Haute's Mike King, no doubt on short notice since he was still in race clothes from afternoon practice. Following is the order in which the eligible cars are to be presented for qualification: 1. Scott Goodyear 4T Pennzoil Panther 2. Davey Hamilton 6 Nienhouse 3. Robbie Buhl 3 Johns Manville Menard 4.
