The 23-year-old who drives the #20 Ed Carpenter Racing-Chevrolet in road and street courses will drive the #11 Juncos Racing-Chevy with sponsorship from Oceanfront Recovery through Rising Star Racing.
Pigot is highly regarded by team owner Ricardo Juncos, who ran Pigot to the 2014 Pro Mazda championship and 2015 Indy Lights title.
“This is, hopefully, the next step in our successful relationship together,” said Juncos, who told Motorsport.com last week that finding the drivers had been the hardest part of making his team’s debut in the Verizon IndyCar Series. “I want to thank Ed Carpenter for allowing Spencer to take advantage of this opportunity. I also have to thank Oceanfront Recovery and Rising Star Racing for their support as well as Chevrolet for supplying the power and durability that our team will need to successfully compete in the Indy 500.”
Pigot made his Indy 500 debut last year with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, as the third of three starts he earned through clinching the Lights title. Afterward, he joined ECR for road/street courses.
Said Pigot: “First I want to thank Ricardo for this opportunity. We have had a long, successful relationship from karts to the Mazda Road to Indy series and hopefully we can repeat that success at Indy this month. I also want to thank my sponsors, Oceanfront Recovery, Rising Star Racing and P1 Management for making this possible.
Oceanfront Recovery is raising awareness about the importance of essential health benefits to combat the opiate epidemic.
The second Juncos entry at Indy is likely to be driven by Sebastian Saavedra.
