Kansas: Vision Racing qualifying report

VISION RACING TO START FROM THIRD ROW AT KANSAS

KANSAS CITY, Kansas - Vision Racing drivers A.J. Foyt IV and Ed Carpenter will occupy the third row for the start of the Road Runner Turbo Indy 300 at Kansas Speedway as the duo qualified fifth and sixth, respectively, in IndyCar Series qualifying today.

The fifth and sixth place start is the best collective grid position for Vision Racing in 2008 after starting from the fourth row just last weekend in Japan.

Not to mention, Foyt's fifth place qualifying run in the Vision Racing No. 2 Dallara/Honda/Firestone machine sets a new career-best qualifying run for him in the IndyCar Series.

Carpenter picked up where he left off last weekend in the No. 20 Menards-Vision Racing Honda powered Dallara. He finished sixth in Japan and will start sixth tomorrow at Kansas for his best starting spot in 2008.

Both Foyt and Carpenter will be looking to give the team its first podium finish this season.

"I'm really happy. Our car has been really good and both Vision cars are going to be up front for the start of the race, so we've got to be happy with that. We've definitely got the cars and the team to get a win; we just have to have everything come together for us to be able to do it. Our cars are very strong so I am looking forward to the race tomorrow."

Ed Carpenter - No. 20 Menards/Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"We qualified well. The car has been handling well all day. We weren't very quick in the first practice, but we got some more speed up in that second practice. It's been an interesting qualifying. Tomas (Scheckter) has done a great job with his startup team, and Marty Roth has impressed everybody. I am just happy with the job that the Menards and Johns Manville team did here and we'll see what we can do tomorrow."
