Impressive qualifying places Conquest Racing sixth and 10th on grid at Kentucky

Sparta, KY (September 3, 2010) - Conquest Racing had its best qualifying effort of the season today with impressive runs by Bertrand Baguette and Tomas Scheckter who qualified sixth and 10th respectively for tomorrow night's Kentucky Indy 300.

Baguette, in only his sixth oval event of his career, posted a remarkable two lap average of 216.988 mph, which initially placed him on the provisional pole.

Teammate Tomas Scheckter took to the track for his qualifying run four cars later. The South African continued Conquest's strong qualifying performance by recording an average speed of 216.589 mph, placing him second behind Baguette temporarily.

Shortly there after, the Belgian saw his hopes of claiming pole position go away when Hideki Mutoh took over first place, edging out rookie Baguette by about eight hundredths of a second.

With over 20 drivers still to qualify, Baguette and Scheckter looked on as the remainder of the field made their attempts and when all was said and done Baguette found himself sixth on the grid, ahead of drivers such as Helio Castroneves and Ryan Briscoe.

Scheckter ended up 10th ahead of last weekend's race winner Dario Franchitti.

6th - Bertrand Baguette #34 Conquest Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone

"I had a good qualifying run. I must admit I was a bit surprised with our speed. It's faster than I thought it would be because we didn't do any qualifying runs in practice. I made a small mistake on my second lap that cost us some speed so I didn't think at the end of my qualifying laps that we would end up P6 on the grid. As a team, we placed both cars in the top ten and beat out teams like Ganassi and Penske, so that is very encouraging for us. We might be a small team compared to others but we're doing great things."

10th - Tomas Scheckter #36 Conquest Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone

"I'm really happy with my qualifying position. We only did race runs in practice but we trimmed a lot of downforce out ahead of qualifying and the Conquest guys did a great job to give me a qualifying car like that. I'm also really happy that Norcote is on board this weekend and to give them a top 10 on the grid for their first race is great. As I said, we worked on our race setup in practice and had a good car so hopefully we can keep it up tomorrow."
