Kurt Busch ready to double down

INDIANAPOLIS – Kurt Busch was ready to meet his latest motorsports challenge head on at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday -- driving the No. 26 Andretti Autosport Honda in his first Indy 500.
He woke up around 8 a.m., had breakfast, discussed his exit plan with Indiana State Troopers and following a quick hit on ESPN, enjoyed Mass with Father Grubba.
Busch, 35, will roll off from the fourth row with his former Sprint Cup competitor Juan Pablo Montoya and Scott Dixon, both former winners in the Greatest Spectacle in Racing.
“Ready to do it – 1,100 miles,” Busch said of the Double on the way to the grid. “The racer in me wants to take over, but I want to enjoy this moment at the Indy 500 and then focus in on what I have to do as a racer which is learn more about the car in the draft and use the first half of the race to be smart.”
Busch’s NASCAR team owner Gene Haas joined the entourage on Sunday to offer his support.
“I just hope he finishes,” Haas said. “I hope he can do the first 25 laps without getting into trouble and kind of cruise to the end."
