Frustrating end to strong St Pete race weekend for Mike Conway

London, UK – Sunday 27th March

It was a race to forget for British racing driver Mike Conway at St Petersburg as he was taken out of the IZOD Indy Car Series race in a first corner incident.

The incident was all the more frustrating as Conway had qualified in fourth position for the first race of the 2011 season and was targeting a podium finish.

Lining up in fourth position for the rolling start, Conway was a passenger when his godaddy.com car was tapped into a spin as he headed into the first corner. The impact resulted in a broken right rear suspension and despite nursing his car back to the pits the team was unable to fix the car, forcing Conway to retire from the race.

“It’s hugely disappointing to be taken out of the race at the first corner through no fault of my own. We had been strong all weekend and there was a real chance of victory which makes the situation even more frustrating;” commented Mike Conway.

“All we can do now is take the positives from the weekend - our competitive pace and the fantastic work that all the guys have done at Andretti Autosport - and look ahead to the race in Birmingham in two weeks time;” continued Mike Conway.
