Weepers Force Japan Cancellation; Race Rescheduled for Tomorrow
Delphi National Guard Team Prepares to Try Again at Japan on Sunday

HOMESTEAD, Fla. (April 19, 2008) -- While the rain held off as long as it needed to run the Indy Japan 300 Saturday at Twin Ring Motegi, weepers in the third and fourth turns of the racetrack forced the 200-lap event to be postponed until Sunday at 11 a.m.

The race delay and subsequent cancellation overshadowed a valiant effort from the Delphi National Guard team, who had to scramble to change the fuel pump on the No. 4 car after a leak was discovered as the team rolled out to the grid. As driver introductions and the National Anthem were taking place on the pre-race stage, Panther's mechanics were putting on a show of their own as they tore apart and rebuilt the Delphi National Guard car in record time.

The Panther team rolled its car onto pit lane as the command to start engines would have been given, but the weepers caused a delay and the team's effort went unrewarded.

All competitors in the IndyCar Series will try again tomorrow.

Vitor Meira, No. 4 Delphi National Guard Dallara Honda:

"It's a shame the race got cancelled because the Panther guys were unbelievable in getting the fuel pump changed on the car. They did driver intros and everything and we didn't even have the underwing on the car. I was literally going to roll onto the grid strapped into the car and our timing would have been perfect. But hopefully their hard work will be rewarded tomorrow when we get the Delphi National Guard car back on track. We're still excited to go racing, but we have to wait another day."
