The last time a Penske Racing driver held an IndyCar title was in 2006.

That is too long for the Captain.

In a story published by the Detroit Free Press, Penske admitted that there was a weight lifted off his shoulder's Sunday night at Fontana after Will Power took home the 2014 championship.

"We’ve lost championships (in IndyCar) the last several years, so this win is significant," he told the Michigan paper.

"It’s sweet to win one again."

Despite the five month circus that is IndyCar being over, Penske can now focus on his two NASCAR Sprint Cup contenders Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski.

While the team has now brought home 13 IndyCar titles, their NASCAR statistics are not as strong. Taking home 81 wins in 42 years fielding cars in NASCAR does not win you a lot of titles. Penske is aiming for only his second in 2014.

"The IndyCar victory takes the pressure off, but not for long. The focus now is on the Sprint Cup. Our guys are hot. And it bodes well for the Chase. We have a couple bullets in the running for the Championship. Brad and Joey are the right guys in this," he said.

"Bringing an IndyCar championship back to Detroit and hopefully a Cup title — that would be pretty special."
