While Aleshin shined, other drivers such as Munoz endured tough days in wine country.

Sonoma was a very interesting event and the rookies were all over the board. Let’s take a look at how they performed.

Mikhail Aleshin

Start: 12th  Finish: 7th

Aleshin was the only rookie that finished inside the top ten this weekend. He stayed around 8th-11th place during the race for the most part and thanks to Tony Kanaan and Graham Rahal pitting late, he made up two positions and earned seventh place as Mike Conway ran out of fuel on the final lap. Aleshin kept his nose clean, so I’ll give him 4/5 since he was able to work his way inside the top ten.

Jack Hawksworth

Start: 18th  Finish: 15th

Hawksworth stayed around 14th-17th for the most part during the race and advanced his positions during the end of the race when others either pitted or ran out of fuel. Unfortunately, he lost out on the strategy game. However, gaining three positions was better than nothing, so he’ll get 3/5 for the race.

Carlos Huertas

Start: 21st  Finish: 22nd

Huertas had a mechanical failure early in the race and didn't get much of a chance to prove himself, but before that, he wasn’t doing too bad. He worked his way up to 17th place but the mechanical gremlins forced him out. We never got to see what his true potential Sunday could been though, so he’ll get a 2/5.

Carlos Munoz

Start: 9th  Finish: 19th

After Munoz spun while trying to avoid Will Power, he really went nowhere.  He only passed Graham Rahal and Charlie Kimball late in the race only because they pitted for fuel. Munoz will also get a 2/5 for this race since he lost so many positions and failed to show any stength.

Review:

Aleshin 4/5

Hawksworth: 3/5

Huertas 2/5

Munoz 2/5

Standings:

Aleshin: 52/85

Hawksworth: 53/85

Huertas: 48/85

Munoz: 49/85
