PRACTICE PROVES DIFFICULT FOR VISION RACING ON STREETS OF ST. PETERSBURG

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Vision Racing drivers Ed Carpenter and A.J. Foyt IV took to the streets of St. Petersburg today in preparation for the second stop on the 2008 IndyCar Series season; Sunday's Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

Coming off fifth and ninth place finishes, respectively, at Homestead-Miami Speedway just last weekend, both Carpenter and Foyt were hoping to be higher on the speed chart than they were in practice today.

After two sessions of practice, Foyt was 23rd quick in the No. 2 Dallara/Honda/Firestone while Carpenter was 24th fastest behind the wheel of the No. 20 Menards machine.

Unfortunately, track time for the team did not go without incident as Foyt sustained damage to the front wing of his machine after making contact with the turn five wall with only two minutes remaining in the final practice session.

Foyt has made two starts at St. Petersburg. Last season he finished in the 13th spot and was running at the end of the race after qualifying in 17th. In 2005 he started and finished 21st due to an accident.

Carpenter's first drive on the streets of St. Petersburg was in 2005 when he finished 19th with the team making their street/road course debut. The following year, Carpenter missed the event due to injury sustained in the morning warm-up in the previous race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Roberto Moreno served as Carpenter's substitute along side Tomas Scheckter. Just last season, Carpenter retired early in 18th after a 16th place start due to contact with Foyt while in 13th place.

IndyCar Series practice resumes tomorrow morning at 8:05 a.m. with qualifying set to commence at 10:55 a.m.

The 100-lap, 180-mile event will air live and in HD on Sunday, April 6th, at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN, as well as IMS Radio Network, XM IndyCar Series Racing Channel 145, XM Sports Nation Channel 144 and on the web at www.IndyCar.com.

A.J. Foyt IV - No. 2 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone

"Obviously we would have liked to have been faster today. We expected to be better than this given our testing, so it was disappointing to start off here like this. We will keep working on the cars to get them faster and prepare ourselves for qualifying tomorrow."

Ed Carpenter - No. 20 Menards/Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone

"We made gains in the car throughout the day, but the stop watch doesn't show it. I wasn't happy with the first practice so we worked on a few different issues and we were able to eliminate those things in the second practice. However, with the way the yellow flags fell in the second session, we were not able to make any progress on the speed chart. We had better off-season testing this year so we should be able to work our way up the ladder from here on out."
