POWER GETS POLE TRIFECTA ON THE GOLD COAST

Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia IndyCar driver Will Power has earned his third consecutive pole position at his home event with a sensational performance in qualifying for the Nikon Indy 300 on the Gold Coast today.

Power became the first driver to earn three Nikon Indy 300 pole positions with an all-out lap time that vaulted him back to the top of the leaderboard in the final segment of qualifying.

The Australian driver set the pace early in the Firestone Fast Six ten-minute run for pole, until Kiwi pilot Scott Dixon took the ascendancy with three minutes remaining.

Then in the dying stages of final qualifying, Power showed why he is regarded as one of the IndyCar Series' top street circuit racers by eclipsing Dixon's time by eight tenths of a second.

Power heads an ANZAC triumvirate for tomorrow's grid, with Dixon second and Australian driver Ryan Briscoe to start from third.

Earlier today Power was second fastest in final practice in the #8 Aussie Vineyards -- Team Australia Honda/Dallara/Firestone behind Englishman Justin Wilson.

Power's KV Racing Technology team-mate Oriol Servia, who is also racing in the colours of Aussie Vineyards and Team Australia this weekend, qualified 15th for tomorrow's Nikon Indy 300 aboard the #5 Aussie Vineyards -- Team Australia Honda/Dallara/Firestone.

WHAT THE TEAM HAD TO SAY --

Will Power: #8 Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia Honda/Dallara/Firestone

"I've been in this position three years in a row, so we have to get it done," said Power

"It was quite a difficult session, to be honest. I went out there and half the track was wet and half the track was dry. It was a matter of getting through each round and in the last round it was all dry.

"It was back to what I knew quite well. Just before that last lap, I backed off and made sure I got a good run in. I'm very happy for the team.

"We turned up with a pretty good car out of the box and the guys did great work. Hopefully we can get it done this weekend, because that's what we've been trying to do for the last three years.

"I can't believe I have another pole start here. But, it's only the pole and the goal is to win the race on Sunday.

"That's the big prize here. It was a mega last lap. And I'm really happy for Craig Gore, Kevin Kalkhoven and Jimmy Vasser. They have supported me through my whole professional career so I am really happy them.

"I also want to thank everyone at KV Racing Technology -- Team Australia. Mark Johnson, Dave Brzozowski, the engineers and the entire crew has done a great job all weekend."

Oriol Servia: #5 Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia Honda/Dallara/Firestone

"I am obviously very disappointed," said Servia.

"I started the weekend bad by crashing in the first practice session. Then, just when I felt I was getting comfortable again with the KV Racing Technology -- Team Australia car for qualifying, it rained.

"I thought I was going to finish fifth on the last lap and didn't want to risk too much in the wet spots, but it wasn't enough.

"It's not where I wanted to start. It's not what the car, or myself are capable of, but hopefully we will have a better day tomorrow in the race.

"The last few years I have qualified well, but haven't done well in the race, so maybe this year things will be different."

Craig Gore: Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia

"Superb performance from Will and the entire team today," said Gore.

"So far we've done everything right. Now we need to execute our plan tomorrow and run a smart race.

"Will clearly has the speed around this track and he's in top form. Now we need to put it all together in the race on Sunday to get the Aussie Vineyards car where it deserves to be."
