VISION RACING FINISHES NINTH AND 12TH AT TEXAS
FORT WORTH, Texas - Vision Racing drivers Ed Carpenter and A.J. Foyt finished ninth and 12th, respectively at Texas Motor Speedway for the Bombardier Learjet 500 tonight. It was the second straight IndyCar Series race to finish under caution.
Carpenter and the No. 20 Menards/Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone machine started 12th, drove as high as fifth and earned his fifth top-10 finish of the season with a ninth place run. After taking on a set of scuffed tires earlier in the race, the car's handling went away and Carpenter fell back into the field. Carpenter managed to hang on, work his way through the field and take advantage of an accident between Marco Andretti and Ryan Hunter-Reay on lap 222; just five laps from the finish. He was running in 11th at the time.
This was only Carpenter's second running finish at Texas in seven starts, and matches his career best at the 1.5-mile oval. Carpenter is now tied for eighth in the championship point standings with Andretti (154 points).
Foyt, who started 15th in the Vision Racing No. 2 Dallara/Honda/Firestone drove as high as 10th this evening, but had to overcome a brush with the wall to finish in the 12th spot. He also benefitted from the late race crash and earned his third running finish at Texas in his seventh start there.
Foyt also moved up two spots to 18th (123 points) in the point standings as the result of tonight's finish.
IndyCar Series racing resumes in two weeks at Iowa Speedway for the Iowa Corn Indy 250. The 250-lap, 218.75-mile event will air live and in HD on Sunday, June 22 at 1 p.m. on ABC, as well as IMS Radio Network, XM IndyCar Series Racing Channel 145, XM Sports Nation Channel 144 and on the web at www.IndyCar.com.
A.J. Foyt IV - No. 2 Lilly Diabetes/Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"Our car was really good on short runs and not so great on long runs. I couldn't get a handle on it coming out of turn two today, but it was a long day once the tires got some laps on them. We got out of here with a below average finish so we'll take that and build on it heading to Iowa."
Ed Carpenter - No. 20 Menards/Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"It was a tough race and I had a really good car early on, but then we put on a set of scuff tires. On that set, the car just got really out of control. That's really where we lost our race. We had to pit early as a result, then we lost a lap, and it all just really unraveled with that set of tires. I think we may have ended up okay in the points with Servia dropping out and Marco Andretti not finishing at the end. It was just a tough day for the No. 20 Menards/Johns Manville car. I feel like we had a lot better car than the ninth place we ended up with, but we just didn't get a chance to use it."
