Firestone qualifying highlight: Ryan Briscoe captured his first pole position of the season in dramatic fashion, setting fast time on the last lap of the Firestone Fast Six qualifying session, edging Justin Wilson by 0.0348 of a second.

From pole winner Ryan Briscoe, #6 Team Penske Dallara/Honda/Firestone: "It was a great last lap. I think the tires had sort of gone over their peak, but I just put it all together in that last lap. We've seen how this race can play out and anything can happen, but it's great to be on the pole. Hopefully we can keep our car at the front there. The Firestone tires have been consistent, which has been key. New tires are a lot of fun but I was sort of surprised in the Firestone Fast Six, where I was able to do my best lap right at the end. So the tires are really holding up good. I didn't really get the most out of them when I should've, but it just shows the consistency of them. Even when they are past their peak, they don't drop off much."

From T.J. Tennent, Project Manager, Firestone Racing: "If tomorrow's race is anything like today's qualifying, we're in for an exciting afternoon Sunday. The Firestone Fast Six is so much fun to watch because every driver is pushing all out on every lap, and the drivers truly enjoy the shootout format. The Firehawk tires seemed to contribute to the action once again today. The brand new tire spec we're using this weekend was designed to be slightly more durable. As Ryan Briscoe said and showed, even after reaching their peak, the tires retain more than enough grip and resiliency to get the job done. We're looking forward to another sensational race on this tremendous racetrack tomorrow."

Qualifying temperatures: Ranged from 121o.-124o. F (49o.-51o. C) track and from 74o.-76o. F (23o.-24o. C) ambient.
