VISION RACING QUALIFIES AT WATKINS GLEN FOR CAMPING WORLD INDY GRAND PRIX

WATKINS GLEN, New York - Vision Racing drivers Ed Carpenter and A.J. Foyt IV will start from the 21st and 22nd positions, respectively tomorrow afternoon at Watkins Glen International for the Camping World Indy Grand Prix.

Carpenter's best lap in the No. 20 Menards/Vision Racing Honda/Dallara/Firestone machine for qualifying came in at a time of 1:32.2381 and an average speed of 131.529 mph. Unfortunately, Carpenter was unable to match his best practice time of the weekend, which he set earlier this morning.

When the IndyCar Series came to Watkins Glen for the first time in 2005, Carpenter started in the 20th spot and worked his way up to 14th to finish the race. In 2006 he had an even better outing as he drove from 18th, all the way up to fifth, and finished sixth in what is currently tied for the team's best road course finish. Last year Carpenter led Vision Racing's three-car effort at Watkins Glen when he started 17th, ran as high as fifth and finished 12th.

Carpenter will be looking for his sixth finish in the top-10 this weekend and a chance to move up in the championship driver point standings where he remains in the 10th spot with 185 points.

With just under five minutes remaining in the opening qualifying session, Foyt's opportunity to qualify the No. 2 Lilly Diabetes/Vision Racing Honda powered Dallara was cut short. Heading into turn seven, Foyt's car got loose, spun and slid backwards into the barrier. Foyt's top lap time in qualifying came in at 1:32.8496 and an average speed of 130.663 mph.

Foyt made his debut at Watkins Glen just last year when he started 16th, ran as high as 10th, suffered a spin in the first half of the race in turn eight, and drove to a 15th place finish. His best road or street course finish is ninth at The Raceway at Belle Isle last season.

Foyt will be looking to capture his fourth top-10 finish of the year in the No. 2 Lilly Diabetes/Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone. He is currently 14th in the driver point standings with 165 points.

Fellow partners Lilly and CardioChek will also join the team at Watkins Glen for the Vision Racing Wellness Tour, which allows race fans to stop by a mobile marketing unit for an opportunity to receive free cholesterol screenings and diabetes education. The complimentary cholesterol screenings and diabetes information will be made available at the track on Sunday, July 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the new Vision Racing Wellness Tour Mobile Marketing Unit.

A.J. Foyt IV - No. 2 Lilly Diabetes/Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone

"It's kind of frustrating really. I don't think we had too bad of a practice session this morning, and we thought that we could gain a little bit. I don't know if we didn't keep up with the track enough given the weather since it's quite a bit warmer out here, but I think we kind of missed a little bit on that. I just made a mistake in turn seven and the car just got out from underneath me and I barely touched the fence, but it took us out of qualifying."

Ed Carpenter - No. 20 Menards/Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone

"I was hoping to do better than what I did in the last practice so I'm disappointed in myself with that. I had a lap going there at the end of the session that was on pace to be my best lap and I just slipped up out of turn seven, got a little loose and threw that one away. We're just not where we need to be. I have realistic expectations, but today we just didn't do a good enough job."
