Motor change prevents perfect set-up

Indianapolis, IN (5 September 08)-- 2005 Firestone Indy Lights Champion Wade Cunningham will start the No. 9 Integra Motorsports entry from 13th on the SunRichGourmet.com 100 grid after he posted a fast lap time of 187.026 mph in qualifying at Chicagoland Speedway on Saturday afternoon.

The team had been looking for more out of the day, but a motor failure spelled an early end to the first practice session and kept Cunningham from getting the maximum track time to work with engineer Doug Zister to develop the ideal qualifying set-up. Cunningham started the day by setting a fast lap of 191.852 in the first practice session and then a 189.226 mph tour of the 1.5-mile facility in the final practice.

"It's a shame because the motor problem put us on our back foot a little bit as far as track time to work on the set-up," said Cunningham, who won the 2006 Chicagoland race. "We gained a little bit for qualifying but we still have some work to do in the race tomorrow. It's great that Doug and I have more than two years of experience of working together, so we have a lot to draw on from that. Hopefully we can move up for a good result tomorrow."

While the motor issue kept the team from zeroing in on the perfect set-up, it still gave the Brownsburg-based squad a chance to shine, effecting the motor change quickly enough to get Cunningham back on the track in time for the second practice session.

"When you have the compact weekend schedule like this, every lap you get in practice is vital, so to lose the time we did this morning and still come back in time for practice was a great effort from the guys," said Integra Motorsports principal David Hunt. "Wade and Doug have been working really well together but we're definitely fighting a bit of an uphill battle tomorrow."
