British racing driver Jack Harvey scored a double podium finish at this weekend’s Indy Lights race around the streets of Toronto. Harvey’s two second-place finishes means he now leads the Drivers Championship by twelve points.

Harvey had a strong first practice session on Friday morning, ending the half hour session around the 1.755 mile, eleven turn street circuit, in second place. The Racing Steps Foundation-backed drivers headed into Saturday’s qualifying session aiming for pole position, but had to settle for P4 as the team struggled to replicate the lap times of the day before. The Schmidt Peterson Motorsports team worked hard overnight and were confident heading into race one that they had found a solution for the race.

Harvey lined up on the second row of the grid for the first race of the weekend. The race was full of incidents from the very start, when Anderson and Piedrahita had a coming together resulting in the No.5 driver retiring from the race. Eleven laps later Enerson made an overambitious move on Piquet Jr, causing Enerson’s car to be airborne, both cars to retire, and the race to be red-flagged. Harvey was now up to P2, just behind race leader Piggot. The race eventually went green again with 15 laps to go. Harvey stayed on the back of Piggot’s car but couldn’t find a way past, and eventually crossed the finish line in second place, just 0.6 seconds behind Piggot.

For Sunday’s race, Harvey lined up on the grid in P5. In another incident-filled race, Harvey kept his cool and worked his way up through the field. Following an early caution, Harvey was able to jump to P3 at the restart and, despite pressure from the No.14 car of Nelson Piquet Jr, held onto P3.

On lap 13 Ed Jones had to pit for a new front wing, promoting Harvey to P2, where he remained unchallenged from the remainder of the caution-filled race. After 30 laps of racing, Harvey crossed the finish line in P2, picking up a further 25 Championship points.

"It was a solid weekend. After a disappointing qualifying session, the fact that we were able to end the weekend with two second-place finishes shows just how good of a team I have at Schmidt Peterson Motorsports. We always keep working. Today was just about keeping it out of the wall and not making mistakes. At the end of the day, I was happy to finish where we did but I want to win races so we will have to keep pushing to make that happen next time;” commented Jack Harvey.

Standings for 2015 Indy Lights Championship after six race weekends:

(1) Jack Harvey 242 points
(2) Spencer Pigot 230 points
(3) Ed Jones 215 points
(4) RC Enerson 165 points
(5) Felix Serralles 147 points
