Grads lead CART Practice

Castro-Neves And Moore Lead Champ Car Cadre At Nazareth Helio Castro-Neves, second in the Indy Lights championship last year, set the pace at 180.305 mph in the Alumax Aluminum Mercedes/Reynard in CART Champ Car practice at Nazareth on Friday. Close on Castro-Neves heels, at 179.601 mph, was 1995 Indy Lights champion Greg Moore in the Player's/Indeck Mercedes/Reynard. After three races, Indy Lights graduates hold the top spots in the FedEx Championship Series. Adrian Fernandez, with a win at the new Twin Ring oval in Motegi, Japan and top five finishes in all three events in the Tecate/Quaker State/Labatt Ford/Reynard, leads with 41 points. Moore, who won the pole for the season opener in Homestead, is second with 37 points. Indy Lights graduates have claimed two pole positions this year in the FedEx Championship Series - Moore at Homestead and Bryan Herta at Long Beach. Additionally, at least one Indy Lights grad has also been on every CART FedEx podium this year. The battle for the FedEx Championship Series Rookie of the Year honors is also headed by two Indy Lights graduates - Tony Kanaan and Castro-Neves, who finished first and second in last year's Indy Lights championship as Tasman Motorsports Teammates.
