IPS: Indy open test rained out, test rescheduled

IRL Infiniti Pro Series Freedom 100 open test postponed to April 18.

The inaugural IRL Infiniti Pro Series Freedom 100 Open Test scheduled for April 17 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway was postponed by IRL officials due to rain. The test will now take place on April 18.

The Freedom 100 will mark the first time in IMS history that another automobile race will share the famed 2.5-mile oval with the Indianapolis 500 during the month of May. The 40-lap race will see the green flag at 2 p.m. local time on Saturday, May 17.

Drivers expected to participate in the open test include: Mark Taylor, winner of the first two races in 2003; Arie Luyendyk Jr., son of two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Arie Luyendyk; 2002 Pro Series race winner and 2001 Indy 500 driver Cory Witherill; short-track open-wheel stars Ed Carpenter, Aaron Fike and Ronnie Johncox; and former road racers Paul Dana, Thiago Medeiros and Jeff Simmons, among others.

The IRL Infiniti Pro Series, which will conduct 12 events in 2003, serves as an essential stepping-stone for drivers striving to reach the pinnacle of open-wheel, oval-track racing in America -- the IRL IndyCarTM Series.
