SPARTA, KY. -- The second season of Indy Racing Infiniti Pro Series competition will expand to 11 races in 2003 and will include a night race at Kentucky Speedway. "The Kentucky 100" is scheduled for Saturday night, August 16th as part of the Belterra Casino Indy 300 weekend.
"We are delighted to once again host the Infiniti Pro Series especially with over 20 open wheel competitors racing at 180 mph under the Kentucky Speedway lights. Our fans are really going to enjoy this show as part of our IRL pole night festivities," said Mark F. Cassis, Executive Vice President & General Manager at Kentucky Speedway.
The Infiniti Pro Series serves as an essential stepping-stone for drivers striving to reach the pinnacle of open-wheel, oval-track racing in America, the Indy Racing League.
"In 2003, the Infiniti Pro Series will be racing at almost twice as many tracks, with almost twice as many competitors as we did in our inaugural season," said Roger Bailey, executive director of the Infiniti Pro Series. "The Pro Series provides the opportunity for drivers to showcase their talents on a variety of first-class tracks on the same weekend as Indy Racing League events.
"Clearly, the strong competition and steady growth that characterize the Indy Racing League are also evident in the rapid development of the Infiniti Pro Series. With an increased number of races and participants, we're looking forward to another season of close, exciting racing."
Infiniti Q45 engines power Dallara Automobili chassis built for the series, with Firestone Firehawk tires used exclusively on all cars. The V8 engines produce approximately 450 horsepower for the single-seat winged chassis, providing an ideal training ground for the 650-horsepower, single-seat winged cars of the Indy Racing League. In 2002, A.J. Foyt, IV won the initial "Kentucky 100" in August from the pole. Foyt held off Ed Carpenter to post his third victory in the first four races of the inaugural season of the series. Cory Witherill finished third. Ronnie Johncox rounded out the top five Season tickets for all 2003 events are available now. Single event tickets will go on sale January 6, 2003. Fans can purchase tickets three easy ways:
* By phone at 1-888-652-RACE
* On the World Wide Web at www.kentuckyspeedway.com,
* In person at either the speedway's Ft. Mitchell ticket office or at the Kentucky Speedway Fan Center off Ky. Hwy. 35 in Sparta, Ky.
