Strong Results for Jensen Drivers Ostella and Garcia at St. Pete Indy Lights Season Opener

March 28, 2011/... ExpoSystems Team Jensen enjoyed a strong debut in the Firestone Indy Lights Championship on the streets of downtown St. Petersburg Florida this past weekend. The team also debuted our impressive new work area custom designed by feature team partner ExpoSystems Displays & Exhibits.

David Ostella drove his Global Precast Team Jensen race car to an impressive 4th place. An unlucky Juan Pablo Garcia suffered damage early in the race while running in 8th position, but fought back throughout the hour long race to finish in an eventual 12th position driving his Freightliner Team Jensen race car.

In his first ever Firestone Indy Lights race, rookie driver Ostella sent notice to his competitors of his championship aspirations. Throughout most of the race, Ostella battled the veteran driver Gustavo Yacaman for 5th position, and finally succeeded in passing Yacaman with a dramatic move up the inside on lap 38. Ostella then made another move to pass Esteban Guerrieri on a final lap re-start to achieve his 4th place finish the hard way, with passes on the track.

Juan Pablo Garcia also showed very good pace throughout the weekend, but was unlucky to have made contact while attempting a pass for 7th position early in the race. Garcia would have to pit for a new front wing, and also suffered suspension damage. Despite the damage, Garcia returned to race action and finished in a commendable 12th position.

“What an amazing first weekend of my Firestone Indy Lights season”, said David Ostella after the race. “My race engineer Remi Lanteigne gave me a fast car, and despite this being my first race at this level, I was consistently quicker than Gustavo and finally able to make the pass late in the race. Hopefully this is a sign of great things to come this season.”

An upbeat Juan Pablo Garcia said post-race “We had a terrific start and unfortunately I got caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time on the exit of turn one. We had the pace for sure this weekend to achieve a top 5 result, and I can’t wait for race #2 of the season where we can put the Freightliner car at the front where it belongs.”

Jensen MotorSport and drivers Juan Pablo and David return to action at Barber MotorSport Park at Birmingham Alabama on the weekend of April 8th – 10th.
