Fontana, Ca. (Oct. 28th, 2000) Team KOOL Green driver Kane had a disappointing qualifying today in preparation for tomorrow's 100-mile race at the Fontana Super Speedway. Kane arrived the defending champion, taking last year's win from pole position but was only able to grab 14th with a lap of 39.965 seconds.

Kane qualified today with the same car, engine and set up as last year but was some seven tenths off his qualifying time from last year. Kane's team mate, Jeff Simmons qualified 13th

Felipe Giaffone took the pole with a time of 39.478seconds. Championship leader, Scott Dixon will line up second on a time of 39.577 seconds, with Casey Mears rounding up the top three (39.612 seconds).

The nature of Super Speedway racing means that qualifying is not as important as on a road or street course as there is a lot of towing and passing during the race. Tomorrow's race will be fast and furious and anything could happen.

JONNY KANE, #27 TEAM KOOL GREEN
"Fortunately qualifying doesn't really matter at these races but I am baffled by how we could qualify on pole at both speedways last year and yet we are only good enough for fourteenth today. We have the same engine, same car and same driver. It is a bit strange perhaps the weather conditions aren't as good but they are similar and I still can't see how we can be that far off compared to last year. The most important thing for tomorrow is to work on the best set up which will work well behind other cars. I think the main thing is to get to the finish without any problems, work my way up and be somewhere near the front for the last dash. Anything can happen."
