Kentucky: James Davison race notes

Davison finishes Fighting 2nd at Kentucky 100.

August 10th 2008 - Australian Motorsport Foundation International Rising Star James Davison, missed victory by the narrow margin of 0.0814 of a second against Dillon Battistini at Round 13 of the 2008 Firestone Indy Lights Championship at the Kentucky Speedway.

After being 3rd overall in the combined practice sessions, Davison qualified his LifeLock Sam Schmidt Motorsports Dallara 5th for the 67 lap Kentucky 100. Shortly after the start Davison moved to 4th ahead of pole sitter Raphael Matos until the first of four full course cautions. At the restart Davison performed an outstanding 3-wide pass on team mate Ana Beatriz and Arie Luyendyk to move into 2nd position behind Battistini. As the race progressed Davison battled wheel to wheel with Battistini who protected the faster bottom line, eventually finishing just 0.0814 behind with Luyendyk Jr 3rd.

Davison said "A strong oval finish has been important to me and something that I've been unable to secure so far this season for one reason or the other. It was very difficult to pass Battistini as he was protecting the bottom line. My teammate Richard Antinucci tried to help push me past however I was just unable to tuck in front without taking an unnecessary risk. I want to thank my team and the AMSF for their support in achieving this great result and I look forward to continuing the momentum for the remainder of the season."

Round 14 and 15 of the 2008 Firestone Indy Lights Championship will be held at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California on August 23-24.
