Unfortunate End to a Very Promising Long Beach Weekend for Walker Racing
Long beach, CA (April 21, 2009)- It was an unfortunate end to a very promising weekend for Stefan Wilson, pilot of the No. 19 Walker Racing Indy Lights entry and younger brother of IndyCar driver, Justin Wilson. The team came up three laps short of a great drive on the streets of Long Beach for the 19 year-old.
Walker Racing rose to the challenge of one of the best street tracks in the United States. The Indianapolis-based squad's experience came in handy as they not only provided a well balanced car for the race, but turned heads as Wilson earned a third place starting spot for the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach Indy Lights race.
Unfortunately, for the young talented driver and Walker Racing, the car suffered its second race failure in a row. Wilson was running in fourth place and had just three laps remaining in the race before his day was ended. The cause was due to a design weakness in the Indy Lights car's transmission.
"A bit disappointing really. This problem has happened several times before with other teams and it's a shame we can't have the car redesigned because Stefan truly deserved that fourth place finish. Also, we had the second fastest race lap, but Stefan was successfully hindered by car No.15 who was a lap down at the time and robbed us the chance of challenging for third place," said Walker Racing owner, Derrick Walker.
In only his second Indy Lights race weekend, Wilson demonstrated again his competitive level. Sadly, his 2009 budget does not allow him to compete until the Watkins Glen race on July 5, 2009. For more updates on the team, please visit www.walkerracing.com.
