Laguna Seca Awaits for Mario Domínguez

Mexican driver Mario Domínguez, who runs car # 17 Del Valle-Corona-Televisa, PacWest Lights, will be this coming friday, October 12th, practicing at Laguna Seca, California, in the eleventh round of the Dayton Indy Lights 2001 championship, race run in support of the CART series next Sunday. The mexican is currently fourth in the standings and arrives to California directly from Georgia, where he ran round 10 last weekend at Road Atlanta, and finished fourth, and, as usual, best latin american.

Mario has 107 points in the battle for the 2001 championship when there are only 2 races left (44 points). Besides being fourth, he is also the best mexican of 4 drivers from his country running Indy Lights this year. Before going to California, Mario said: "Laguna Seca is my favourite track. I made my debut there in 1992 -while he was 16 and just crowned Formula Mazda champion. I love all the elevation changes, the diversity of turns, its difficulty level. My team, PacWest Lights, has a great set up for this track, besides me liking it. I expect to have a good showing. I'll try for an outright win because I feel I have all the elements needed to give the team and my supporters another victory. The track is about 2.2 miles long and it is located in a beautiful natural zone. The track is always in good condition, and achievieng a good lap in it is always very fulfilling".

This year, Mario has raced in four permanent circuits -Monterrey, Portland, Mid Ohio & Road Atlanta- and qualified seventh or better in all of them. He also finished in the points in the four tracks, a fourth at both Monterrey and Road Atlanta, being his best result in them. In his 3 years in the Indy Lights series, the PacWest Lights driver has raced 13 rounds in permanent tracks and scored in 9 (77%). Mario has scored in all 10 races run this year (100%) and has points in 22 of his last 23 races (95.7%), consistency being a key word when you look at his results in CART's subsidiary series. This year Mario has two Pole Positions (PP), in a street circuit and an oval, so he'll be going for another one at a permanent circuit so he can show his ability in al kinds of tracks. This will be his 38th start in the series, second among current drivers, and his 11th start for the PacWest Lights team.
