RICHARD ANTINUCCI FINDS BRILLIANT WAY TO FILL THE FIRESTONE INDY LIGHTS 3-WEEK BREAK BETWEEN THE MILWAUKEE AND IOWA ROUNDS: RACING
The San Diegan will enter his second Rolex Grand-Am event at The Glen next Saturday
Richard Antinucci will warm up for the next test at Iowa in the Lucas Oil Sam Schmidt Motorsports Dallara #7 driving... another Dallara, the Ford-powered #47 Daytona Prototype entered by Doran Racing at the upcoming Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen. The 27-year old driver made a stop at the Lebanon, Ohio outfit on Tuesday to have his seat fitted, and is eager to reach the upstate New York 3.4-mile, 11-turn road course.
"My goal now is to win the Firestone Indy Lights series and move up to Indy "without Lights" next year, but when time permits I wish to race at every right opportunity, and I really like sportscars. It only helps you to become a more versatile driver. I had a chance to get in a DP cockpit at the last 2007 Grand-Am round and I enjoyed it, I also managed to post the race fastest lap at Miller Park. After the Freedom 100 Mr. Giampoalo Dallara was kind enough to find the time to drop at my garage to shake my hand. I hugely appreciated that, but I wonder now if he had liked my outside manoeuvres at the Brickyard enough to tip me for a seat in one of his Grand-Am sportscars... As a matter of fact, a few days after Indy an opportunity to join Doran Racing and share the #47 car with Gardel and Frisselle has come about. I had been previously been in touch with them over the winter: they have a huge amount of experience in sportscars and I look forward to capitalise on that. At some stage of my career I would love to make my mark at Daytona, Sebring and the Glen, and I was at a loss of words when I've learned that they have posted wins at all those venues in the same season (1998)! Moreover for one who --like me-- is proud of his Italian roots it's a pleasure to have another chance to drive an Italian chassis. Lately I also joined the Lamborghini Academy as a driving coach, and I've spent 10 days early in May in Vegas, unveiling media, dealers and guests all the secrets of the latest Bull's cars, therefore I quite seldom get homesick about Italy these days!"
