(Lexington, Oh): The PacWest Lights entries of Tony Renna and Scott Dixon have qualified in the top 10 for tomorrow's seventh round of the Dayton Indy Lights Championship at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.
Tony Renna, driver of the #18 Motorola PacWest Lights entry, set a time of 1:14.917s around the 2.528-mile road course and will start eighth.
The Florida native could have been starting from the front row if an incident just minutes from the end of the session had not brought out a red flag to end qualifying -- it was the second consecutive day where Renna was in the shadow of the finish line with a possible pole time when his hopes were crushed by a red flag.
Dixon, driver of the #17 Invensys/Powerware PacWest Lights entry improved on his efforts from yesterday, but still battled set-up problems and will start eighth on the grid after registering a qualifying time of 1:15.094. The championship leader was disappointed with his final time, but is looking forward to picking his way through the field and maintaining his advantage in the title chase.
TONY RENNA - # 18 MOTOROLA PACWEST LIGHTS -- 7th
Qualifying Time: 1:14.917s
"We were pretty happy with our progress throughout the session, unfortunately the red flag came out with 3.5 minutes remaining and we were probably on our best lap," said Renna.
"My car was pretty good all day and it was coming in nicely on the tires. I've been a little loose in the high-speed corners and this is a pretty tough track to pass on. We'll see how we do in the warm-up tomorrow, but I'm definitely looking forward to the race."
SCOTT DIXON - # 17 INVENSYS/POWERWARE PACWEST LIGHTS -- 8th
Qualifying time: 1:15.094s
"I've struggled with my set-up all weekend, but I think things are starting to come around," said Dixon.
"I can't really seem to get my car to turn into the low-speed corners, and I'm lacking a lot of front grip.
"We've tried a lot of things to make my handling better, and we'll just have to look at the car tonight to see what else we can do. The track conditions seem to change so much, I'm anxious to see how it will be tomorrow."
