Race recap: PacWest Lights drivers Dan Wheldon and Mario Dominguez both battled problems today, which diminished their chances at a victory. Wheldon was struck from behind the start of the race and, as a result of that, fell back two positions to seventh and had to fight back from there. Wheldon managed a few passes to regain his lost positions, but could not climb any further in the standings. He finished the race in fifth position. Teammate Mario Dominguez also had a difficult time as his car suffered mechanical problems early. Dominguez could not keep pace with the rest of the field and fell back seven positions to finish the race in tenth position.

"We got nailed at the start by someone," said Wheldon. "We got hit in the rear and lost two positions right off the bat and there was no way we could climb back to the top to win this race unless several mistakes were made by the leaders. Once we fell back we struggled because the car was very loose when we tried to lean on it and pass people. I know the car would have been quick on it's own, but with this track being so tough to pass on we just didn't have enough to make it happen."

"I can't believe the bad luck we've had the last two weeks," said Dominguez. "Today, I had multiple problems with my car and either one of them could have been the cause of my demise. Early on my fuel pressure light came on and when I tried to make right hand turns, the car just stopped. People were passing me left and right. Then I lost fourth gear and couldn't maintain any pressure on the other drivers. It's too bad because my car was good enough to win this race this morning."
