American Spirit Racing's Cyndie Allemann, driving the #18 Cabo Wabo / Royal Spa sponsored machine, gained 11 positions during the second race at Infineon Raceway on Sunday. Starting from 22nd position on a track known for difficulty to pass, Cyndie masterfully drove through field to finish 11th, passing more cars than any other driver and with consistent lap times equal to the top 6 competitors.
Starting 15th in the weekend's first race, contact from another driver at the start of the race resulted in a flat tire and a broken front wing that required Cyndie to limp around the entire 2.3 mile road course to return to the pits to change tires and the front nose, which put her car a lap down to the field. Upon re-entering the track Cyndie quickly set her mind on trying to gain back her lap but a broken input shaft ended her day early.
"We had a good car this weekend," stated Team Owner Jon Lewis. "and Cyndie really liked this track. It's a shame we had contact on the first lap of the first race. We had a great shot at two top-ten finishes and a strong shot at two top-fives. The Team put a great car together and Cyndie did a tremendous job driving this weekend. I'm really proud of all of them."
Cyndie currently sits in 15th place in the Championship with one race left in the season at Chicagoland Speedway.
