Notes: This is the same combination of left- and right-side tires Goodyear has brought to Talladega since May 1997, making this the 13th consecutive race . . . that is the longest running track-tire combination in the current Goodyear line . . . this is the only NASCAR track where these tires will be used in 2003 . . . Talladega and Daytona make up the Superspeedway Group in the 2003 Goodyear tire line, though each has its own unique combination . . . both the NASCAR Winston Cup and Busch Series will compete on the same tires this weekend . . . as on all NASCAR ovals greater than one mile in length, teams are required to run inner liners in all four tire positions at Talladega . . . the air pressure in the inner liners must be 12-25 psi greater than that of the outer tire.
Goodyear Quote -- Mark Keto, Lead Engineer, Stock Car Tire Development: "This particular tire setup is the longest running in the 2003 Goodyear lineup. We've obviously had a great deal of success on this setup, with this being the 13th straight race we've used this left-right combination at NASCAR's longest oval track. There is very little wear or give-up that teams need to worry about, so two-tire stops have come to be expected at Talladega, even before NASCAR made teams run the smaller fuel cell."
