Australia's best heading to Adelaide.

29 April, 2003 - The nation's elite karting fraternity will this weekend converge on Adelaide's Bolivar Raceway for the second round of the 2003 Dunlop Australian CIK karting Championship.

Considered as the elite level of karting in Australia the Dunlop CIK Championship attracts not only the best drivers in the country but also several overseas drivers from New Zealand and Malaysia.

Sydney driver, Jason Hryniuk claimed the opening round of the Formula A Championship at Melbourne last month in one of the best races ever seen in the 11 year history of the Championship.

A great result in the opening round has given veteran Queensland driver Richard McLeod a new lease on life and is excited about returning to one of his favourite circuits this weekend.

Formula A is the top class of karting in the country will be supported throughout the Dunlop Australian Championship by fellow CIK classes Intercontinental A, Junior Intercontinental A and Intercontinental C.

Following the supremacy shown by Victorian drivers in the opening round of the Intercontinental A Championship the South Australian drivers are looking to return the favour when the Championship comes to SA this weekend.

Victor Harbor resident, Alex Schultz was inside the top 5 for the majority of the weekend in the Championship opener. Colonel Light Gardens driver Eddie Wignall proved he will be a force setting the fastest lap of the race on two occasions in his debut.

Troy Woodger and Kyron Williamson will also be looking forward to improved performances when the Championship comes to their home circuit this weekend.

In Junior Intercontinental A Paul Laskazeski was simply dominant at the Championship opener and will be aiming to repeat that performance this weekend.

Murray Bridge driver, Mason Merritt who knows the Bolivar circuit like the back of his hand could well be a dark horse this weekend.

South Australian Tyson Pearce will enter the weekend as the favourite in the Intercontinental C class given his local knowledge and the pace he showed at the Championship opener.

With the exception of Intercontinental C who utilise 125cc 6-speed gearbox karts, all engines are 100cc.

Capable of reaching speeds in excess of 120kmp/h the action at this weekend's round is set to be electrifying.

Qualifying will begin on Saturday morning followed by heat races in the afternoon. Racing will re commence at 10am on Sunday with the final round of heats, Pre-Final followed by the Finals that are expected to begin at approximately 1pm.

Bolivar Raceway is located on Summer Road, Bolivar. (next left off Port Wakefield Road after the Bolivar Gardens Caravan Park).
