CIK: Change of direction for Australian championship

CHANGE OF DIRECTION FOR AUSTRALIAN CIK CHAMPIONSHIP

The Australian CIK Championship has undertaken a change in direction for 2008 with the series set to be relaunched later this year.

This decision was made by the National Karting Council, which is the committee that control the sport for the Australian Karting Association, when their minimum level of support outlined to the International Karting Council was not met by April 30.

With the engines that were pencilled in to be used in the 2008 series already having landed in Australia it provides the opportunity for a well-planned promotional schedule to springboard the series into the future.

Given this vision there will be two 'exhibition' style events held later in the year, dates of which will be announced in the coming weeks, to highlight why Australian karting needs the 'elite' CIK Series to be successful.

"Firstly, I would like to thank the industry and the teams who supported the proposed series in 2008 but unfortunately for a variety of reasons the full series has not been able to get off the ground," said CIK series representative Simon Whiting.

"Our plan now is to have a full evaluation into the planning of the 2008 series to discover where things could be improved and what we as the governing body of the sport can do to ensure the 2009 series is the best it can possibly be.

"In my opinion a successful CIK Series is pivotal of the growth and the life of the sport because for a sport to succeed it requires structure and an elite level, which the CIK Series is to Australian karting.

"At this stage we are looking at holding two 'exhibition' style events later this year to highlight the CIK style of racing and we will announce the details of these as soon as they are finalised."
