Montreal, March 25 -- Italy is the first destination in the long karting season that awaits young 15 year-old racer Kevin Lacroix from Saint-Eustache, Quebec. After successful testing in Florida last week, Kevin will now campaign in four rounds of the Italian Open Master championship in order to spend more time on the track with his new ICA class CRG chassis. Official pilot of PSL Karting team, recognized as one of the best in America, Lacroix thinks he will be fit to tackle the upcoming Stars of Tomorrow North American series. Defending champion in the 80cc class in 2003, he figures he will be able to close the gap over the leaders of the highly competitive ICC class when the championship is launched later in Pennsylvania.

" It's like starting all over again, admits Kevin. Last year was a tremendous learning curve in a class where there were many serious contenders. In 2004, the chassis is new, the engine is stronger, the rules have changed and opposition will reach another level of competition."

Testing in Florida

Lacroix spent the last week testing his new hardware in Florida. He took to the track new CRG chassis, Maxter engines and Vega tires, a new sponsor. He took part in a round of the Florida Winter series just to break in the new material. "My new chassis is stiffer and corners very well, Kevin continues. The engine has more torque in low revs and gets faster out of the corners. The tires have softer compound and give me tremendous grip. I wish I had them in the Stars series where we have to mount another brand. I earned one pole and was always among the fastest even though I had been away from the track for four months. I long to drive in Italy where the season is already underway: I want to learn first of all and this is the best place."

Italian Open Master

Lacroix and his team will visit the Alpine Star racing suit manufacturer after they land in Parma this week. "Alpine makes fine racing suits, even for Formula One drivers like Montoya and Button. I'm fortunate to get their support this year because I was selected to represent them in America." This coming weekend, Kevin will head to the karting facility in Lonato for the second round of the Open Master series. 'We have to nurse different set-ups with our machine, concludes Lacroix. The racing calibre is very high in Italy and this is the best way to start working after being idle for a long period."

Busy schedule

Lacroix and family are expecting a busy schedule in 2004. After the four rounds in the Italian Open Master series, they will enter the North American Stars of Tomorrow series: four important programs with two races each weekend. Later, Europe will be considered with possible rounds in the European or Italian championships. There will be occasional visits in the Quebec series. Kevin will enter the Canadian championships should the date be changed (there is a calendar conflict with a round of the Stars series presently). Finally, while he just turned 15 a few weeks ago, open-wheel racing testing lies ahead for this young man sometime before the end of the season. The next months will be quite busy for the Saint-Eustache driver.

The driver and the team

Official driver for PSL Racing team, Kevin Lacroix enters the 2004 international Stars of Tomorrow series as a defending champion. He will enter occasionally the Coupe du Quebec series and the Canadian Championships if the date does not conflict with the Stars series. He is currently under contract with SKF Motorsports, Raybestos, Tenneco, Pennzoil, Auto Parts Plus, Uni-Select national network and Lacroix Auto Parts. He is supported by CRG chassis, Maxter engines and Vega tires and Alpine Star. His web site can be seen at www.kevinlacroix.com where more pictures are available.
