GERRITS VICTORIOUS IN FLORIDA WINTER TOUR
"Defending Canadian National Champion scores another victory"
Guelph, Ontario -- March 8, 2006. -- FirstKart.com team driver Eric Gerrits claimed another victory this past weekend at the Ocala Gran Prix facility in Ocala, FL. Gerrits claimed the checkers in Sunday's Rotax Senior class on his way to a second place result in the overall series championship.
Gerrits, who is the defending Canadian National Champion, managed to move forward throughout the heat race and final to claim the checkers just ahead of the series title winner. The win was Gerrits second of the series and added to his '06 podium total. A day earlier, Gerrits increased that podium total by one as he managed to claim the second step on the box.
"We had a very good weekend" explained Gerrits. "We were upfront the majority of the time and were looking good. Even though we were unable to claim the series crown, I am still thrilled with our results and look to carry the momentum into the rest of the '06 season."
Gerrits will enjoy a weekend off before heading across the country to compete in his first Stars of Karting event. The multi-time karting champion will contend at the Race of the America's in the Spec Racer division utilizing the potent First Kart Leopard power. Having never seen the Oklahoma Motorsports Complex before, Gerrits will look to get up to speed quickly in his hunt for the checkers.
