Estasy back to Europe for Round Two
Sydney karter Adrian Estasy has returned to Europe for round two of the European Rotax MAX karting Championship. The event will take place at the Kombikart circuit in Eindhoven, Holland, on May 29-30.
The 22-year old is looking to avenge the bad luck encountered at the opening round in Italy in March. At that meeting, Estasy proved to be one of the pace setters, winning a heat and lining up third for the final, only to be punted off the track in the first lap. He subsequently fought back from last position on a drenched circuit to claim 14th. He now sits an unrepresentative 14th in the championship, which is led by English Trulli Kart driver, Tristram Oman.
Estasy is eager to do well in Holland and earn some decent points. "We were ripped off a bit in Italy" he said. "I hope we can show what we are really capable of without getting shoved off the track."
Estasy's effort for round two has gained further momentum with two of Arrow's factory mechanics -- the highly experienced and internationally acclaimed Jon Targett and reigning Australian Rotax champion Bart Price - to join him in Holland. He will also be taking an Australian tuned CC Racing engine to evaluate against the engines he used at round one.
"I want to do what I thought we were capable of doing at the opening round in Italy" he said. "Finish first, or at least on the podium."
Having joined forces with DPE (Drew Price Engineering, the manufacturer of Arrow karts) to tackle the championship, Estasy will now remain in Europe until the end of the series. The initial deal to participate was completed a matter of weeks before the first round. "We'd been having discussions with the CRG factory in Italy about doing a season of racing in Europe" Estasy said. "But then, after going so well at the Rotax World Finals in Egypt with Arrow, we talked with Drew about the European Championships."
DPE see the European MAX Championship as a viable program in which to be competitive. "We see there is potential for competing on a more equal ground than what would have been the case with CIK racing" Price said.
At the opening round, the pace of Estasy and fellow Arrow driver, Japan's Takao Matsuya, impressed the Europeans, both drivers taking a heat win and demonstrating the pace of the Aussie frame by lining up on row two for the final.
Estasy's Euro campaign is supported by DPE/Arrow and Xtreme Race Gear.
Round three of the European Rotax MAX Championship is in Austria (July 31-August 1) followed by the fourth and final event in Portugal on September 22-24.
