FIRSTKART.COM: MOROSO REVIEW
"Podiums and top fives for Indiana based teams"
Brownsburg, Indiana -- February 21, 2008 -- First Kart North America, First Kart USA along with the FirstKart.com race team headed South these two weeks to compete in the second round of the Florida Winter Tour being held at Moroso Motorsports Park in Jupiter, Florida. With several new and returning drivers under the team tent, hopes were high to attain victories and podiums in the sunshine state.
Over the first weekend of Rotax action, FirstKart.com had seven drivers registered from Canada, Costa Rica, Mexico and United States. The weekends best results came American Rotax Masters pilot Paul Montopoli and Canadian Rotax Junior driver Kevin Monteith. The talented Monteith was able to earn two top five results including a podium run on Saturday. Joining Monteith in the junior category was Cory Cacciavillani who had another good outing in Florida.
Hector Montemayor and Jose Hernandez were the FirstKart.com entries in Rotax Senior and both battled hard throughout the weekend. Hernadez was able to score 15th and 23rd place finishes while Montemayor struggled in both finals and came home 32nd and 38th.
Jose's younger brother Maurico Hernandez competed in Mini Max and was very fast all weekend long and even set fast lap in Sunday's pre-final. Maurico was able to score a 7th place result on Saturday while a technical infraction excluded him from the results in Sunday's racing action.
Rotax Masters competitor Paul Montopoli had another outstanding weekend scoring two second place results. The Masters driver currently sits second in the overall point's standings and will look to bring the team the title in mid-March.
The second weekend of competition would see Junior Intercontinental A (JICA) pilots Spencer Pigot and Miles Maroney as well as Spec Racer competitor Chris Larson do battle under the FirstKart.com team tent. Larson would run with the leaders all weekend long but eventually finished 4th in Saturday's action. While running in the top five on Sunday, Larson suffered a mechanical failure taking away a sure podium result.
JICA drivers Maroney and Pigot were on a tear all weekend long as the duo were rarely seen outside the top five in racing action. Maroney was able to come home with third and fourth place results while Pigot scored a fourth and a sixth. Both drivers sit in the top three in the overall series points and will look to battle hard at the Ocala Gran Prix facility.
