Super Cheap Auto Junior Blitz Series
15 June, 2003 - "To finish first, first you must finish."
It's the oldest Motorsport saying in the book but it was the appropriate comment following the Junior Sportsman Final at the second round of the Super Cheap Auto Junior Blitz Series today at Geelong, Victoria.
As the field rolled out for the Final the fickle Geelong weather was threatening. It was not a case of if it was going to pour with rain but when!
With all drivers competing on slick tyres the heavens opened to drench the 760-metre circuit at just after half race distance.
The downpour changed the tone of the race dramatically with race leader David Sera, Ben Small, Trent James, Justin Schneider, Ashley Walsh and Nick Percat all sliding off the circuit in ARC corner on lap 7.
Another driver to come to grief with the weather was James Love who ran off the circuit only to rejoin in front of the pack. Despite crossing the line first he was later penalised for failing to regain his rightful position on the racetrack within one circulation.
Lindstrom crossed the line well clear of eventual second place finisher, Aaron Hindle who was followed by Kristian Lindbom, James Reid and Andrew Budge.
David Sera continued his superb form to claim a comprehensive victory in the ARC Junior National Heavy class. Sera finished well clear of Chris Jeffrey while the same couldn't be said about the third spot.
Mark Dorbolo finished third after a race long battle with Jonathan Taylor, Rick Pringle and David Schultz.
In ARC Junior National Light John Condemi was the hard charger late in the race to take over the front running late in the race to take the win ahead of Reid and Robert Munnerley.
Sera, Mark Dorbolo and Bradley Cady all failed to finish.
In Sniper Rookies Leigh Nicoloau and Max Carter looked to resume their battle at the front of the pack but it wasn't to be when Nicoloau spun out of the event on the opening lap in the slippery conditions.
The demise of Nicoloau allowed Carter to cruise to victory ahead of Joshua Millburn and Justin Tate.
While Jordan Ford may have won the two heat races in the Comer supported Midgets class he couldn't stop he was forced to settle for second behind Ben Lincoln in the final. Jesse Fenech finished third.
The next round of the Super Cheap Auto Junior Blitz Series will be held on July 18/19 at the Willowbank Kart Raceway, adjacent to the Queensland Raceway where the V8 Supercar Championship will be in action on the same weekend.
